Have you considered spending the same money of types of wines you and he have not yet enjoyed?

I may be all wet but, keeping notes in a $0.79 notebook while shooting live bullets on a wine safari is money much better spent than shooting blanks... Get some advice and buy him one expensive bottle (or several great inexpensive bottles) of wine(s) that he has never tried. Don't be afraid to soak up an education of your own along the way!

Good luck.
References :
The kit should includes these nine essences—sweet, bitter, sour, smooth, acetic, flowery, fruity, oak and tannin—individually bottled and carefully prepared so that the suggested dilution corresponds to their concentration in wine. You’ll also enjoy wine more and feel completely at ease when you’re ordering it in restaurants or discussing it with other Wine Enthusiasts. Kit also should includes, a detailed instruction booklet, all necessary labels and a wine tasting glass.
References :
Wine making kits are sold in Canada so that should not be a problem. Not to mention that the kit is just juice, yeast and other components. It won't become wine until you set it up and let the yeast get to work on the juice in the kit.
References :
wine kits are legal in Canada as well as the US.
There may be a cap on the amount of things you can transport tax free, but otherwise, you should be fine.
References :
I don't see why it should be. You are not transporting alcohol, just some pieces of plastic, etc.
References :
It depends on the mash you use. These professionals can get a really high concentration so it doesn't take quite as much volume of mash to make the same concentration of alcohol in the product. If you assume you'd get 25% return on your mash, you'd need about 3700 gallons mash, but these guys usually cut what they get out the spiggot with water to tone it a down a bit, so the 929 gallons that a pro has for final sell, may not be quite as pure as one may believe, so the actual produced gallons off the mash may not have been 929 gallons but could have been some amount smaller depending on how it was cut, usually with spring water.

You can see a lot of videos of the mechanisms these guys use, I think there are some youtube. They can be pretty expansive and elaborate.
References :
well, wines get around 10-15% alcohol

moonshine is usually 50%-80% alcohol

so if you were using a perfect system, you are looking at something close to 5:1 ratio of beginning product to end result, so 929 gallons would start with 4645 gallons.
References :
My advice would be to look up Texas wines and wine producers and see what grape varietals they are using since these are likely to be the most suitable for the area.

I am a bit concerned about how successful this is likely to be as a venture without any previous knowledge at all.
