What does white wine make the food taste like?
Posted by admin
For Thanksgiving we are trying a new way of cooking the turkey. We found a recipe that sounded like we would like that calls for us to baste the turkey like every so often with a butter and white wine baste.
What does cooking with white wine make the food taste like or what does it do to the food? I have never cooked with wine before so I was just wondering.
It adds a kind of tangy flavor, kind of how vinegar would (but more fruity). When you use wine for cooking, you can also serve the kind of wine you used in a sauce or whatever with the meal, and it goes perfectly with the food.
Gift Ideas for the Modern Bridal Shower

Traditionally, wedding shower gifts have been items that would be useful to the couple when they set up housekeeping together. Toasters, electric irons, blenders, and other small appliances have been among the most popular gifts to give at wedding showers. Today, many couples are waiting longer before they get married. For this reason, one or both probably have already purchased these types of items for use in his or her own home, making giving them as gifts redundant. Gifts at modern bridal showers should focus more on the personality of the bride and should be more personal in nature. Below are some ideas for gifts to give at a modern bridal shower.
Wine glasses or champagne flutes and a bottle of wine make excellent choices as modern bridal shower gifts. It is not at all uncommon for new couples to wish to drink a toast to celebrate their first night together in their new home, or perhaps their first dinner as a married couple, or even their first one month anniversary. Champagne or wine and the appropriate glasses for such a special occasion make perfect gifts.
A lovely vase may be the perfect gift idea. It is common knowledge that women love to receive flowers. A vase can be a beautiful accent piece for the bride’s new home. It will also serve as a reminder to the groom, if it sits empty in a prominent place, that he should buy his wife flowers once in a while just because he loves her and wants to keep romance alive in their relationship.
Personalized stationary makes a wonderful addition to the new home or office. In the fast paced world of today, email seems to rule. Handwritten letters have taken on an entirely new value because of this and having some stationary personalized with her new name and address can be just the nudge a bride needs to take the time to write some personal letters from time to time. Choosing higher quality papers, cotton or linen for example, makes the gift of stationary more valuable.
Create a collage of pictures of family and friends that attend the shower. Better yet, take some pictures of the guests during the shower and assemble the collage, leaving room for everyone to write some short message to the bride and sign it. If there is time during the shower, assemble everything and present it at the end. If not, make sure it is ready to give as a wedding present on the big day.
Assemble a cookbook using recipes from each of the guests with each recipe scaled to feed two people. Too many people try to live on takeout or wind up with so many leftovers that huge amounts of food are wasted. Setting up a cookbook designed for two provides an intimate touch and could save the couple money in the long run. Make sure to include plenty of photos to show appealing each dish can be and provide detailed instructions in case the groom decides to try his hand at cooking a romantic dinner occasionally.

Can i swap the grape juice for pure strawberry juice in wine kits?
Posted by admin
so then it wouldnt be wine would it or would it not work?
obviously still following the same principles the grape juice would
In a word yes.
You can make wine from any fruit although I think grape juice might just give your wine a little more body.If you don’t have grape juice why not try some sultanas to give your strawberry some body
I have made wine from most veg and fruit sap from the silver birch tree flowers etc the only veg I wouldn’t recommend would be onion wine unless you were going to marinade steak.
On strawberry it makes a fantastic sparkling wine, I made mine with a double fermentation and putting into proper Champagne bottles to stand the pressure the proper bottles weight is about 29 ozs empty, I used the French way of settling out the sediment it takes a while OH but what a success.Alex
After primary fermentation of my homemade wine, does the second container need to let in oxygen?
Posted by admin
When I rack my wine after the primary fermentation, can I put it in a sealed container, or does it have to be in a container with an airlock? Isn’t the only important thing that oxygen doesn’t enter? Thanks in advance from this beginner.
Letting in Oxygen would be bad. The airlock is to let CO2 escape and prevent Oxygen from entering. If fermentation is complete a sealed container is fine, that is what a bottle is after all.
Home Wine Making Help?

i’m looking to make some wine, i have all the equipment i’m just short one thing, i don’t have a cold cellar or a dark room that has a temp. of 15 degrees which from what i understand is the ideal temp. for wine to ferment. my question is, would i still be able to ferment my wine in a higher temperature room and still get a good result? if not, where else or what else could i do to have it stored at a proper temperature?
likely no
you want it to be in a cool, dark location.
if its a little warmer than 15 Celsius (60 Farenheit) it will likely not be horrible, but too much warmer or too much light will make a difference
if you really want to get into it, there are specific devices that you can put around your fermenting bucket/carboy to chill it. the most common is usually used for lager brewing, called a wort chiller, but would work fine in wine making… usually its just to cool your wort before brewing, but i have seen people use them to keep their fermenting bucket cool
I am making home made wine, I am sooooo impatient and its been sitting for about 5 days… is it safe to try?

The balloon actually deflated about 3 days after i had made it… so i dont know if thats a good sign… HELP!
please…
5 days
It wouldn’t have turned to wine in 5 weeks
The fact the balloon has deflated is that the yeast has died and it isn’t fermenting again.
Start again, and do it properly.
As for the person who says they got drunk on something that had been fermented for 3 days – there would be hardly any alcohol in it at that stage so that is complete rubbish.
