Why does my home-made wine give me a raging headache like a bullet in the head?
Posted by admin
I have been experimenting with several home recipes. if I drink 3 or 4 glasses of some of the fruit wines, i get a headache the next day that's worse than a whole bottle of jack daniels.
what is it about homebrew that is so wrong in the chemistry?
I agree that it's probably too sweet. Back off on the sugar content or use a champagne yeast that will use more of the sugar.
How to Get the Most From Your Red Wine
Posted by admin
Â
If you like red wine but donât know much about it, youâve come to the right place. In this article we look at some handy tips for buying and serving red wine.
Work up through the sizes
If you are going to be serving more than one glass (or bottle) of red wine, the key thing to remember is to work through the sizes. In other words, start with a light red wine such as a Merlot, Barbara or Gamay, then move onto a medium bodied wine like a Tempranillo, Pinot Noir or Malbec, and/or finish with a full bodied red wine such as Shiraz, Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon. If you start with the heavier red wine first, youâll find that this will overpower the lighter red wine.
Full-bodied red wines are best saved for food
Big, powerful red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz work best with tasty red meat. Why? Because these red wines are full of tannins, body and alcohol, which taste good with meat proteins but are often too harsh drunk on their own.
Light red wines work best over lunch
Soft and gentle red wines, such as Merlot and Gamay, are a great choice if you are drinking over lunch. This is because they are low in tannin, alcohol and acidity, which makes them easy to drink and not too powerful for the afternoon ahead. Similarly, they are a great choice as an aperitif, or for drinking on their own on a summerâs afternoon.
Buy for the person and occasion
Everyone has different tastes when it comes to red wine, so make sure that you buy your red wine to suit the person who will be drinking it. For example, if you are buying for yourself, go for something that you will like, not what the shop assistant or your friend likes. Also, itâs worth considering the occasion. If you hosting a dinner party, then a big full bodied red wine is bound to come up trumps but if you are having a lunchtime drinks party then a softer and fruitier red wine will be far more appropriate.
Focus on the style
Â
When it comes to choosing a bottle of red wine, if you donât know where to start or could do with a helping hand, itâs worth looking to retailers who focus on wine styles. Wine styles can give you a lot more choice compared to if you focus on grapes, countries or regions. For example, if you know that you like an Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon, the chances are youâll stick to that in future, but if you discover that you like âHuge Redsâ (full bodied, fruity reds) then youâll have a host of different grapes to choose from including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Zinfandel from Old and New World Countries.
Look to where the value is
Donât be tempted to splash out on big brands or famous names, as youâll end up paying for the labels. Instead, it is far better is to look to the lesser known regions, where youâll get all the same quality for a fraction of the price. For example, try a Chilean Cabernet Merlot as a value alternative to a Classic Bordeaux.
Serving is the easy bit
The key to serving red wine is to place it in the kitchen before drinking to ensure that it is the right temperature. Also, especially if you have an old vintage or full-bodied red wine, you might want to open in advance to let it breath. Easy as that!
So now youâve got the tips, youâll be ready to put them in to action.

What should I call my home-made wine if it was brewed while I never had any sex with my wife?
Posted by admin
Every night that she wasn't in the mood, I washed bottles, mixed ingredients, added yeast, stirred the pot, transferred to locked chamber, and then racked for bottling. I am getting close to harvesting my first batch, and I need ideas for the label. What should I call it?
The Reserved Grape or The Locked Cellar
Good Luck and Enjoy that wine!
A New Decorating Style- Decorating With Wine Pictures
Posted by admin
Wine tasting and wine connoisseurship is very popular today. Consequently the idea of using wine themes in decorating has caught on as well. This kind of decorating idea is usually used in the kitchen or dining room. People who use this theme enjoy collecting items that complement this whole decorating idea. Luckily for them. there is a wide selection of such items available to decorate with. There are “portraits” of wine bottles. sculptures of grapes and vines. or wall paper and borders with a grape and grape vine pattern. There is an entire line of framed pictures of wine bottles. showing all of the various types of wines. The variety of items with this theme is amazing. And they are usually pictured in magazines. so you can see how they are used in a room. The wine pictures show scenes that include wine. as well as just single bottles of wine. If you find a picture that is especially interesting or pretty. you can use it as a central focus for the room.
Many times an entire room’s design is based on one piece of art; art featuring wine is no exception. The colors usually found in these pictures are rich and varied. Use some or all of them in the room to really make the picture stand out. The deep russet of the wine itself on the furniture. the tan of the labels on the walls. and the background colors in accent pieces such as pillows or candles. It is really a lot of fun to decorate with a lovely wine picture as the starting point. Which room it is in doesn’t matter. Any of the lovely pictures available would work in many rooms. You can get so many different ideas and accents and bring them all together in one room.
If you want to be truly creative. you can create your own wine picture and have it framed. Perhaps the bottle you drank to celebrate a special event. Your creation will make you proud. and bring back fond memories.

is it a danger to your health to drink homemade wine if not everything was properly sterilized?
Posted by admin
for my biology class we are making wine. we sterilized everything, but some of it ( the thing htat corks it on top) was lain back down on the lab table after it aws sterilized. i am so scared i'm gonna get seriously ill from taht wine. is that a legitimate fear? it probably didnt touch the actual wine, jsut the top of it. mom says i shoudl let my lab partners try it and wait a few days befor ei do LOL
"There are no known pathogens (toxic micro-organisms) that can survive in beer (or wine)." Any of the contamination that you are working on avoiding with your sanitation are things that would produce off flavors. The homemade wine will be safe. Whether it will taste good is another matter.

is it okay to used distilled water when making homemade wine?
Posted by admin
i used distilled water in a batch of wine and then read on some random site that distilled water when making wine is a "no no".
If you are making wine fom fruit concentrate. ( what it sounds like you mean ) the fruit concentrate will provide all of the nutrients necessary. And if you use tap water, boiling is not a bad idea. Not because there is much chance of bacteria affecting the wine but to remove the chlorine which cann inhibit the yeast and impart an off flavor.
